Jon Sommer is a mushroom foray leader, renowned lecturer on an array of mycological topics, and dedicated teacher of mushroom identification.  For more than 45 years, his expertise has been sought after throughout the United States.

Jon’s formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree in botany from Humboldt State University and Master’s degrees in botany and plant pathology from the University of California, Davis.  He further studied mushroom identification with notable mycologists including Drs. David Largent, Orson K Miller, Jr  and Harry D. Thiers.

As resident of Colorado for three decades and presently residing on the Oregon coast, Jon has an invaluable wealth of knowledge on fungi across the United States, with a particular focus on Colorado, northern California and Oregon.  Since 1993, Jon has been an active member of the Colorado Mycological Society, currently serves as its President.
